Dr. Louise "Luisa" R. Lopez is a bilingual licensed psychologist, in the state of Florida, who enjoys collaborating with individuals (children to adults) in the process of facilitating healing, growth and restoration. She has a heart and passion to see individual lives, relationships and communities restored. She is grateful for the opportunity to walk with individuals on the paths they are presently on and provide opportunities to experience new perspectives on their voyage of discovery.
Dr. Lopez believes that individuals are equipped with personal strengths and resources that can foster a healthier and a more fruitful life. Life brings about unexpected changes and uncontrollable situations that can add compounded stress from various areas of life (work, relational, education, spiritual, physical). Human nature attempts to maintain control of the situation(s); this may work in smaller, more manageable situations but not in those beyond our control. Through therapy, individuals are able to analyze with increased insight and implement therapeutic interventions to alleviate stress that may be significantly impacting their daily functioning.
Dr. Lopez’s theoretical orientation is aligned to the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach, an empirically validated treatment. CBT emphasizes the importance of identifying and correcting irrational or harmful thoughts as well as changing self-defeating behaviors. She does find value in principles found outside the CBT realm and utilizes a range of therapeutic tools to provide individualized treatment in addressing client’s unique needs and goals. She considers herself to also be client-centered exploring client’s unique strengths and allowing patients to arrive at solutions to their problems by examining their own thoughts and behaviors.
Dr. Lopez earned her Doctoral of Psychology Degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA. She earned her Master’s of Science Degree (M.S.) in Counseling Psychology as well as her Bachelor’s of Arts (B.S.) in Psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida. She participates in psychological workshops and seminars as part of her continuing education.
She has and continues to work with individuals from multi-cultural backgrounds ranging in age from pre-school years to the geriatric population in addressing a myriad of personal and relational issues including anxiety, depression, behavioral difficulties, ADHD, bereavement and loss, major life transitions, relational conflict, medical illness, schizophrenia, sexual abuse and post-traumatic stress. ViveLaVie assists in identifying obstacles on your path of success, getting to the root of the problem, and identifying strengths to assist you in reaching your full potential.
Psychotherapy or "therapy" is a healing process in which a therapist, such as a psychologist, works with an individual to overcome emotional difficulties and struggles within their lives. Therapy sessions provide an empathic and supportive setting in which individuals find freedom in sharing about their issues/struggles. Therapy provides individuals with the opportunity to address obstacles in their lives that are impeding intrapersonal and/or interpersonal progress. Emotional and behavioral issues (depression, anxiety, grief, anger, ADHD, PTSD) can affect daily functioning, which in turn can affect job performance, academic performance, family and social relationships and involvement in pleasurable activities. The therapist will provide feedback, guidance and, most importantly, support throughout the therapeutic process.
Learn to identify the obstacles on your path and how to work with and around them so that you can continue on your journey of progress. You will get out of individual therapy what you put into it.
Children, unlike adults, are not typically able to engage in “talk therapy.” Children are more active and are more expressive through play. Play therapy allows children to express their needs, wishes and problems through their natural language, play. They are able to communicate their thoughts and emotions through play activities as they work through daily life obstacles they encounter. Primary areas of focus with play therapy are for the child to understand his/her feelings, to understand feelings of others, and to promote cognitive development and insight. To provide children a sense of autonomy, they are permitted to choose the activity(ies) they would like to engage in during their therapy session; however, the therapist also navigates the type of activities available for the children depending on the emotional and/or behavioral issues the child is experiencing.
